Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, eyelet hole and satin stitch. The sampler comprises 34 horizontal bands which contain alphabets, repeat border patterns, bands of lozenge designs, of crowns, of hearts, of lions and of men carrying lanterns. the remaining band s are filled with the inscriptions 'Lord give me wisdom to drict my w(ay) I/Ben no riches nor the lenth of days my lif/e is a flower the time it has to last it/is taken with a frost and shook with/every blast', 'Sarah Ballay is my name England is/my nation Brentford is my dwling/ plas and Christ is my salvation/ in the 10 year of her age'.
