Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, and eyelet hole stitch. The upper 18 cm are inscribed with 8 lines with a border design separating each one from the next. A crown is worked as a line ending. The lower 26.5 cm is comprised of a long central octagonal panel, which includes a name and date; surrounding it a symmetrical arrangement of motifs including a fruit basket, crowns and coronets, flower sprigs, strawberries and flower vases. The inscriptions on the sampler read 'O all ye nations of the wor/ld praise ye the Lord all wa/y and all ye people every/ where set forth his noble/praise for great his kindness/ is to (vs) his trv/th doth not de/cay where fore praise ye the', and ' Mary/French end/ed this work/in the tenth ye/ar of her age o/ne thovsand se/ven hvndred for/ty one in the f/ourteen th/year of t/he r kg2
