Description

Border sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks and linen thread in satin, stem, double running, chain, back, faggot, Greek cross and hemstitch; with French knots, filling stitches and drawn thread work. The edges are hemmed and decorated with eight tassels. The sampler comprises predominantly horizontal and vertical repeat border patterns, some small detached motifs and an inscription which reads 'AS, SAM, SOO, A, XIS'.
