A sprig border frames the main body of the sampler which comprises an inscription and a symmetrical arrangement of 18 detached motifs including flower baskets, birds, bushes, carnations in two handled pots, flower sprays, sprigs, a dog and a stag. The inscription reads ' Charity/Did sweeter sounds adorn my howing tongue/ than ever man pronounced or Angels ng/Had I all knowledge human and divine/That thought can reach or science can desine/Yet graciuos Charity indulgent guest/ Were not thy power exerted in my breast/ a tymbals sound were better than my voice/ my faith were form my eloquence were noise/ Charity decent modest easy kind/ Softens the high and rears the abjest mind/ Soft peace she brings whereever she arrives/ she builds quiet as she forms our lives/ Lays the rough paths of peevish nature even/ And opens in each heart a little heaven'.
