Description

Oval silk map sampler with a linen backing, embroidered with polychrome silks through both layers in back and stem stitch, with French knots and painted details on the figures. The edges are raw. The map depicts the European territories, and the edges of Asia and Africa. Most countries or regions have their names embroidered inside them, as have the seas and oceans. In the right corner a small pictorial piece of embroidery depicts two men, one on a horse the other standing next to it, in front of a classic background. The map is enclosed by a meandering floral border.
