Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks and linen thread in darning, dot, double hem, hollie point, needlepoint and satin stitches. The sampler comprises eight horizontal bands. The top bands contains the name 'Mary Gregory ' darned upon a square lace background formed by the removal of some warp and weft threads; bands two, four, six and eight contain little geometrical patterns formed by dot stitch worked in horizontal lines while bands three and seven contain three squares of holliepoint alternating with two circles of needlepoint, vertical bands in geometrical satin stitch are placed in between the motifs. Band five contains two squares of holliepoint alternating with three circles of needlepoint with similar bands of satin stitch in between them. The holliepoint squares have patterns of lozenges, hearts and crowns, which contain the initials 'MG' and the date '1711'.
