Sampler, wool, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross and satin stitch. A floral border encloses two sections. The top one contains motifs arranged symmetrically around a hill with two trees and three classical colonnades. The lower section includes similar motifs arranged around a depiction of the Temptation of Adam and Eve with a hymn above and an inscription beneath

Sampler, wool, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross and satin stitch. There is a selvedge on both sides, the top is turned under and stitched and the bottom is cut. A floral border encloses two sections. The top one contains motifs arranged symmetrically around a hill with two trees and three classical colonnades. The lower section includes similar motifs arranged around a depiction of the Temptation of Adam and Eve with a hymn above and an inscription beneath. The inscription reads' How chearful along the gay mead/The daisy and cowslip appear/ The flocks as thay carelelsly feed/Rejoice in the spring of the year/The myrtles that shade the gay bower/ The herbage that springs from the sod/ Trees plants cooling fruits and sweet flowers' and the hymn reads ' All raise to the praise of my God/ Direct my ways Lord all my days/ Shall man the great master of all/The only insensible prove/A Hymn/ Forbid it fair gratitudes call/ Forbid it Devotion and love/ The lord who such wonders could raise/ And still can destroy with a nod/ My lips shall inceSsently praise/My soul Shall be rapt in my God./ Redeem the time/ R.Benjamin'.
