Description

Sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in satin, cross, chain, eyelet, buttonhole and backstitches with French knots, semi-detached interlacing and drawn thread stitches. All the edges are hemmed and have a small tassel in each corner. Horizontal bands of repeat border patterns are worked across the top and bottom sections. The central section is worked with three different cruciform shapes, floral sprigs, circular and sun motifs. The sampler is inscribed with an alphabet and 'ANO 1778, PNs P?ns De Da Perez'.
