Description

Sampler, canvas, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross-stitch. A strawberry borders frames the main body of the sampler which comprises a bird on a bough, a basket of fruit, detached roses, strawberries, plants and the inscription 'Jesus permit thy gracious name to .tand/ as the first effort of Sophia's hand/ and while her fingers o'er the sampler move/Engage her tender mind to seek thy love/ with thy dear children may she bear a part/ and write thy name thy-self upon her heart/ Sophia Perkins aged 10 years 1850'.
