Description

White terra-cotta stoneware (?), moulded, and gilded overall, probably after its restoration. The ovoid vase is supported on a circular foot attached to a square base by a rod and circular brass screw. The lower third of the vase is decorated with fluting, and the upper two-thirds with a continuous relief of Meleager hunting the Calydonian Boar. The foot is gadrooned and edged with acanthus leaves, and the base is decorated on the outer edge with ovals linked by straps over darts. The domed cover is moulded in relief with clouds, and has a finial in the shape of a seated figure of Diana with her right arm raised. The unglazed interior has a convex base.
