Pale blue jasper with white reliefs
Jasper, pale blue with white reliefs. Square with slightly bombé base and sides, which have a downward scroll at each corner. On each side there is a figure in a rectangular panel: the Flora Farnese; a draped female offering at an altar; a flying, winged female holding a flower garland; a flying winged female holding a flower garland. Over each panel there is a garland of fruit, and, on each side, sprouting from the bottom of the scroll, a spray of laurel. There is a pierced tubular hole down the centre, and at the top and bottom this surrounded by four small holes some distance away from the central hole, as if at the corners of a square.

The design of the relief may have been taken from Paolo Alessandro Maffei, 'Raccolta di statue antiche e moderne, data in luce . . . da Domenico de Rossi', Rome, 1704, pl. LI.
This pedestal form was supplied with a four tier tulip vase or separately priced at 31s. 6d. to be used with a snake-handled vase, shape no. 266 (see MAR.C.10-1912)
