Description

Cope: crimson velvet orphreys, linen hood and morse embroidered with silk and gold thread in satin stitch and embellished with spangles. The embroidered motifs represent:
1- The virgin standing with child in her arms wearing a blue mantle over a green robe
2- Saint Catherine dressed in a rose mantle edged with gold and lined in green over a green robe
3- an evangelist holding a book in his left hand, a pen in his right, wearing a blue mantle over a green robe
4-A saint dressed in a red mantle patterned with gold cones and lined in green
5- Saint John the Baptist in a blue mantle carrying a book in his left hand with a Paschal Lamb upon it
6- A Saint in a green mantle lined in blue and patterned with acanthus leaves. The virgin and five saints stand under architectural canopies with pinnacles.
The background to each figure is of couched gold and the ground upon which they stand is of silk laid and couched with gold. Above the canopies of figures 4, 4 and 6 the sky is dotted with stars.
