Maker: Stagni, Francesco
Trompe l'oeil folding fan, drawn and painted on chicken skin. Sticks and guards are made of ivory and pierced gilt. Dated 1771 on front and back and signed by Francesco Stagni. The design includes a circular vignette with two young boys holding a branch and what looks like a plough. The remainder of the fan is decorated with overlapping drawings, and strings of coloured pearls on a pink diamond trellis background. The overall design gives the impression of a desk scattered with paper. The design on the back includes a drawing of a letter, headed 'Bologna, June 1771', and is signed 'Gaspare Lamar'.
