Description

Folding fan of "chickenskin". With a pen, ink, and wash rural scene with shepherdesses and cows. Shaped, pierced and painted ivory sticks in chinoiserie style. Guards of ivory, carved, pierced, and gilt. Inlaid with red foil.

History note: Colonel Leonard C. Messel (1872-1953); his daughter Anne, Countess of Rosse (1902-1992)
