Description

Double paper leaf painted in bodycolour, silvered and gilt; the reverse has a border of painted flowers, arabesques and trees. The sticks and guards are of ivory, pierced, carved and gilt in three tones; the guards are also backed with mother-of-pearl.

Note

This is probably a commemorative fan for some important family, when the man was elevated to the peerage: note the draped ermine and the putto with a wreath.
