New Woburn or Bedford Gypsy Fan for 1805

Double paper leaf printed in black and painted in water-colours. Gold paper binding on upper edge. Sticks and guards of wood (18+2). Brass ? rivet with bone or ivory washer. Front: The leaf is divided into five vertical panels. In the central panel, flanked by groups of 4 cards, there is an oval coloured print of a gypsy wearing a bonnet and holding a pack of cards, with below 'The New/WOBURN or BEDFORD/(GYPSY FAN)/for 1805', and above instructions for fortune telling. Running down the left side of the two panels on the left and the right of the two panels on the right are the suits of cards with the Kings at the top. Beside each card there is a statement about the character or future of the chooser of that card. The left, lower and right edges have borders of black zigzag painted pink. Reverse: Undecorated.
