Description

Double paper leaf, printed in black, painted in water-colours and silver. Gold binding on upper edge. Sticks and guards of polished bone (14+2). Steel rivet. Front: In the centre within an oval frame is a statue of Liberty holding a bundle of rods, axe and helmet in her left hand and a triangle in her right. She stands on a pedestal inscribed in Dutch 'VRYHEID,/ LYKHEID/ BROEDERSCHAP' (Liberty Equality Fraternity). On the left, a group of figures: a woman kneeling beside a cradle, a standing woman holding a spear and a standing man wearing a red, white and blue cap. On the right, another group, comprising a trooper with a gun, a woman with a small boy and a man holding a spear. The ground is seme with silver dots resembling sequins, and on all sides there is a border of a wavy silver-dotted line reserved in a wide brown band. Reverse: Undecorated. Sticks and Guards Undecorated.
