Folding fan of paper, double leaf. Painted in water colours and gilt, with two ladies and two gentlemen in a landscape. On the reverse is a figure in a sketchy landscape, on an island in a lake.
Ivory sticks, shaped, pierced and decorated with red and gold flowers. Guards of carved, pierced and painted ivory, with foil backing.
History note: Colonel Leonard C. Messel (1872-1953); his daughter Anne, Countess of Rosse (1902-1992)
