Description

Double leaf of paper, printed, painted in water-colours and gilt. Gold binding on upper edge. Sticks of pierced ivory, silvered and gilt on the front and painted on the back. Guards of pierced ivory, silvered and gilt, the head strengthened with mother-of-pearl. (14+2) Rivet with mother-of-pearl washers. Front: In the middle, a printed, hand-coloured vignette of a gentleman carrying a lady towards a waiting carriage, surrounded by a painted landscape. The left, upper and right edges have a stylized floral border in gold. Back: In the middle, a printed and hand-coloured vignette of a lady seated on a rock beside a stream attended by an angel who is feeling her heart and taking her pulse. Signed below, 'pomel Sc 1820' On each side there is a stylized floral spray painted in gold and pink. The left, upper and right edges have a stylized floral border in gold. Sticks: Pierced by simple leaf sprays and decorated on the front with diamond-shapes and stylized leaves in silver and gold foil, and on the back with painted roses and leaves. Guards: Pierced with stylized plants and decorated with silver and gold foil, striated and engraved with a flower head and three leaves.
