Cardboard, printed in black and painted in blue, green, yellow puce and grey watercolours; turned wooden handle. On one side is a print of Father Time, and German and French inscriptions meaning: 'with time and straw one ripens medlars' (a type of fruit). On the other is an applied printed portrait medallion of Marie Anne Victoire, Infanta of Spain (b. 1718), surrounded by printed and painted scrolls and flowers.
History note: Colonel Leonard C. Messel (1872-1953); his daughter Anne, Countess of Rosse (1902-1992)
