Description

Skirt; black silk pleated underskirt on a black cotton waistband. The three skirt panels are edged with black satin-faced silk bands with light blue silk linear detail. The skirt is embroidered with shades of blue, cream and pale green silk with some gilt metallic thread with repeat floral bands on the pleats, and flowers and butterflies on the main panel. The silk threads include both floss and twisted types, and are worked in satin, straight, and knot stitches. The metal thread is laid and couched.

Notes

History note: Acquired by the donor's father, the Reverend Stanley Smith, wile he was a missionary in Korea from 1905-1915.
