The oblong strap-plate is covered with cells containing garnets, many of which are now lost. On the tongue of the buckle are inlaid three garnets. The bronze of the buckle was once gilt.

Dalton (see Documentation) considered that it was Frankish, but T.D. Kendrick ascribed it to British workmanship, 22nd June 1934: E.T. Leeds believed it to be not Frankish, but Visigothic.
