Gold and coloured enamels, with openwork frame. Set with sardonyx intaglio of Alexander the Great in Nicolo facing in profile to the right. He has long hair and wears a cloak and Classical armour: dragon-crested helmet embossed with an armed centaur and the bearded mask of Jupiter Ammon, cuirass with scrollwork centring on winged child's head with snake above, lion's mask at the shoulder. Inscription in Roman capitals (not retrograde): ALEXANDER MAGNUS. 'Alexander the Great'.
