Ms note signed WMR [W. M. Rossetti]: "This is the copy (1 vol. out of 2) of Mrs. Browning’s poems wh. Gabriel & I owned from about 1846, & wh. we were perpetually reading. It remained in Gabriel’s hands to his death, & then Charlotte Polidori was well pleased to accept it as a souvenir - after Christina’s death it returned to me." This is followed by an addition signed W. M. Rossetti Nov. 1904: "I now present it with friendly regards to S. C. Cockerell."
Inscription by Charlotte Polidori: "Given me by William May 26 1882."
Ms note signed S. C. Cockerell: "The above [Rossetti] was written by D. G. Rossetti and all the marks in the work are his except one on p.19 which is by W. M. Rossetti and one on p. 221 which is by T. Wolner, R.A."
