Note

This plate was part of a service made by Thomas Chamberlain of King Street, Soho, for the celebrated actor and manager of the Drury Lane Theatre, David Garrick (1717-79). If the arms had tinctures (colours) they would be described: 'Per pale or and azure on the dexter compartment a tower gules and on the sinister on a mount vert a sea horse azure mane, fins and tail of the first, on a chief gold, three mullets of the second. (See Documentation, Burke) Thirty-one pieces from the service bearing either Garrick's arms or crest are at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust at Stratford-on-Avon.
