Description

Soft-paste porcelain painted in enamels with exotic birds

Soft-paste porcelain, moulded, and painted overglaze in blue, green, yellow, dark puce, purple, orange-brown, brown, and black enamels. The cup has deep sides which curve upwards and outwards from the foot, and then rise almost vertically to the rim. The handle is harp-shaped with a slight kick at the bottom. The saucer is circular with curved sides. The cup is decorated on one side with a flying bird, and on the other with a group of birds, two standing and one perched in a tree. The handle is outlined in dark puce. The saucer is decorated internally with a peacock amid foliage, and with two other birds, one in a tree, and the other flhing. The rims of both pieces are outlined in dark puce.
