Description

Fritware coated in a white slip painted in blue under a clear glaze

Buff fritware, mould made, coated in a white slip painted in two shades of blue under a clear glaze
Shape: hemispherical bowl with a plain rim on a cylindrical pedestal foot
Interior: on the base a star like motif contains a central rosette painted in blue surrounded by reserved floral sprays in a concentric band and within the points of the star. On the body, eight lobbed medallions contain cloud scrolls and floral sprays painted in reserve. Both the medallions and star points are outlined with a floral stripe. Archways between the medallions enclose pointed ovular cartouche in which floral sprays are painted in reserve.
Exterior: occupying the body loose floral sprays are painted in light blue with dark blue outline between concentric lines. On the lower body curved gadroons are alternately blue or white with a central blue line, painted above a narrow band of chevrons. On the foot a band of stylised cloud scrolls are inter-twined with floral sprays. Glaze and slip cover exterior except rim of the foot ring.
