Description

Soft-paste porcelain finger bowl, decorated with leaves and insects in polychrome enamels.

Soft-paste porcelain finger bowl, painted in blue, turquoise, green, yellow, puce, gray, pale purple and maroon enamel-colours. Circular with deep sides, contracting in a convex curve towards the base; scalloped rim. The lower part is decorated with scallopendrium leaves, above which there are three moths, a dragonfly and a beetle; in the centre of the interior there is a moth; and on the rim, a maroon line.

Notes

History note: Dr and Mrs Hugh Statham; Dr Statham died 1967; Mrs Statham died 1970; their daughter, Miss Beryl Statham by whom lent anonymously in 1988 (Statham Loan 5-1988). Bequeathed by Miss Statham, 1990, accepted by H.M. Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum
