Potter: Hughes, Edward (potter)
Stoneware, slab-built in two parts, the interior coated with transparent, speckled grey-green Shin-Asaka glaze; the exterior with dark-brown and red-brown glaze; the cover also trailed with diagonal stripes, and feathered. The base, the lower edge of the sides of the cover, and the upper edge of the sides of the box are unglazed. Square, with both halves of almost the same depth.
History note: Having been thrown out by the potter because of its imperfect condition, it was acquired from him, either by gift or puchase by the donor, Ian Lowe, whose memory fails him on this point
