: Original model conceived in 1900; first exhibited in Paris in 1902, when first edited in bronze by Ambroise Vollard. Present bronze cast at unknown date after 1902.
'Leda' was the first major work of sculpture by Maillol. It was first exhibited in Paris in 1902, alongside works by other contemporary artists at the gallery of Maillol's art dealer, Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939), and was received to great critical acclaim. Vollard edited the sculpture in bronze.
