Note

This Parian group was commissioned in 1850 by the Association for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Edinburgh (founded 1834) for distribution to its members. It was based on the Scott Memorial in Princess Street, Edimburgh, 1846, by Sir John Steell, RSA (1804-1891), and copied from a reduced version in marble of 1849.
