Soft-paste porcelain or hybrid porcelain dog's head whistle, painted in red, purple and black enamels; remnants of gilding.
Soft-paste porcelain or hybrid porcelain dog's head whistle, painted in red, purple and black enamels; remnants of gilding. The dog has a black patch over its left brow and ear and spots on the right side of its face. Its nose and whiskers are black; its mouth is outlined in purple. A hole to take a cord for suspension is pierced through its muzzle. The area round the mouthpiece was originally gilt and has remnants of gilding on it.
History note: From the collection of the late Dr & Mrs H. Statham; lent by the testator, 1988. Miss Beryl Statham Bequest accepted by H.M. Governament in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum.
