Note

The bust was derived from the a full-length sculpture which Falguière exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1882. The model enjoyed great popularity and the bust was reproduced many times in at least three different sizes and in different materials, including bronze, terracotta, and plaster. The bust was edited in bronze by the Paris-based foundry, Thiébaut Frères. The foundry mark on the present bust indicates that it was produced by Charles Fumière, probably between 1906 and 1926 when he edited bronzes under the name 'Thiébaut Frères (Fumière et Cie successeur).
