Buff earthenware tin-glazed salt, painted in blue, red, and green. Of captstan form with an everted rim, and a circular depression for the salt in the top. The sides are decorated with scattered stylized leaves and flowers, and there is a border of scallops striped in red round the rim.
The whole surface has a bluff glaze that has been discoloured by burial
History note: The salt was probably found in Mill Lane, Cambridge, in 1902. It is not known how it came into the possession of the testator, Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
