Description

Hard-paste porcelain dish and drainer, painted underglaze in blue. The base of the dish is unglazed, and the underside of the drainer is only slightly glazed. The oval dish has a cusped edge, narrow sloping rim, deep sides and a flat centre. Decorated with the 'buffalo pattern' on the sides of the well with a trellis diaper pattern, and on the rim with four large and four small floral sprays and a narrow trellis diaper border. On the outside there are four floral sprays.
The oval drainer is pierced with a large central hole surrounded by four sprays of leaves seperating four groups of holes. The decoration is en suite with the dish

Both pieces have the collector's label, incorporating the initials of the donors and the numbers of their adjacent houses. Circular label with 'S Marchant & Son London WC' on both pieces. There is a small label on the back of the dish 'Chien Lung, 1736-1795; but the RAC thought it could be as late as 1800
