Description

Bronze, cast. Reclining satyress with her left arm bent behind her head and her right arm stretched out over her right, with her hair streaming behind and across the right side of her head. The python is entwined round her body with the head coming from behind to bite the satyress' arm at the elbow.

Note

Previously attributed to Rome and Northern Europe, mid-17th century. Apparently a 19th/20th century pastiche, made to deceive. The 'faults' in the cast seem to have been deliberately introduced when the model was still in the wax.
