Description

Fritware, coated in a white glaze painted in lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in white, slightly pitted glaze painted in lustre
Shape: carinated body on a flaring foot, a collared neck and plain rim. Strap handle with thumb rest attached to the body and rim.
Exterior: all decoration is painted in lustre. On the neck, a pseudo calligraphic inscription is framed by concentric bands. On the upper body, a frieze of mounted horsemen are separated by chequer board trees and dotted scrolling vines, on the lower body sketchy arabesques are framed by concentric bands. On the handle a pseudo calligraphic inscription is framed by lustre panels. Glaze covers the surface unevenly on the collared neck; it terminates on the lower body and foot ring where it pools slightly.
Interior: the rim is painted with a concentric band above a pseudo calligraphic inscription on the neck. Glaze covers the entire surface.
