Description

Hard-paste porcelain figure of Paris leaning on a treestump sparsely painted in enamels

Hard-paste porcelain, moulded, glazed and painted in greyish-green, a little yellow, tanned flesh, dull mauve, and black enamels. The underside of the base is concave with a blunted conical support in the centre, and a ventilating hole in the back right corner. It is glazed, except for the wide flat edge. The shallow square base is topped by a smaller square area with grey-green foliage on the two front corners, and a tall, forked tree stump in the back right corner. Paris stands with his left foot advanced, leaning on the stump, and holding in both hands the handle of a staff which is missing. He has long black curly hair, and is naked apart from a dull mauve hat with two pale yellow feathers tucked into its brim His pipes attached to a mauve strap lie on the ground at the base of the tree stump.
