Hard-paste porcelain painted in polychrome enamels with flowering plants, two birds, and insects in, and gilded on the finial

Hard-paste porcelain, painted overglaze in blue, green, yellow, mauve, and black enamels; the base and inside of the rim of the vase, and the flat underside of the rim of the cover are unglazed, The enamels on the cover are less bright, and the decoration includes gilding. Hexagonal with a short neck, curved shoulders and sides tapering inwards towards the base. The domed hexagonal cover has a deep internal flange, and a mushroom finial. It is extremely heavy for its size. The sides are decorated with two red birds perching on a mauve branch which projects to the viewer's right from a clump of polychrome flowering plants and has leaves and flowers on its end. The angle opposite to the birds is decorated with six small sprigs and there are two winged insects and several small sprigs and leaves on the shoulder. The neck has a border of red rectangular meander pattern. The cover is decorated with one red bird perching on a mauve branch extending to the left from a group of flowering plants with two gilded buds. The finial is decorated with a gold star.
