Description

Hard-paste porcelain, painted in enamels, and gilt

Hard-paste porcelain, moulded, and painted overglaze in blue, yellow, pale pinkish-orange, red, puce, pale purple, and dark purple enamels and gilt. The underside is concave and glazed. The low mound base is roughly oval and has a shaped, scrolled edge picked out in puce. The man stands facing front, with right leg advanced, left arm bent with the hand resting on his hip, and right hand holding his cloak behind him. He has delicate features with black eyebrows, eyes and moustache. He wears a pale purple turban with darker purple stripes, and red and pale purple jewels on the front; a pale orange long-sleeved gown with a red floral pattern, blue and gold buttons, and blue lining, which is tucked up on his right so as to reveal his baggy trousers, which are pale purple with purple stripes and gold and white spots. His shoes are yellow, and he has a gold-hilted dagger tucked into his white sash with purple and gold stripes. A long purple cloak with a white lining is held in place by a jewel below his neck.
