Description

Hard-paste porcelain cistern. Three sided, on high foot, gilded and painted overglaze in iron red, purple, green, pale blue, brown and gold. The neck decorated with sprays of flowers and birds. Bunch of flowers decorated with silver, now oxidised to black. On the shoulder are thee mask heads (plain white) with head dress and bib in silver, now oxidised to black. There are three spouts on the lower portion of the body.

Note

This is one of only two Du Paquier factory table fountains known to have survived. The projecting spigots would have had screwed taps or nozzles to dispense the water. It was probably placed on a buffet so that it could be used by servants to rinse glasses during a meal. (See Documentation, Chilton 2009)
