Factory: Meissen Porcelain Factory
Hard-paste porcelain painted in enamels, and gilt. A pair with C.36-1946
Hard-paste porcelain, press-moulded, and painted overglaze in blue, green, yellow, flesh pink, pink, puce, red, purple, and brown enamels, and heavily gilded. The underside is glazed. The figures are supported on a square base raised on four scrolled feet, and decorated round the sides with scrolls and roccoco 'frills', picked out in gold and puce. The top is decorated with scattered sprays of polychrome flowers and sprigs. The woman stands on her left leg with her right knee relaxed and the foot a little behind the other. She looks towards her left towards a bunch of flowers held up in her left hand, and holds out her right hand over a basket of polychrome flowers resting on the head of the putto who stands on her right holding up both hands to support the basket. She has pale brown hair with a purple ribbon near her brow, a chignon at the back and a long tress hanging down her back. Her shoulders and breasts are bare, and her long robe is decorated with polychrome flowers reserved in a gold ground, and has a green lining visible at the top and lower edges. It is is caught up over her left shoulder by a purple strap, and has a brooch at the top of a split which reveals her right leg. A long white stole with a polychrome floral pattern passes over her left upper arm, and down to the ground on the other side. The nude putto has dark brown hair.
