Description

Hard-paste porcelain, painted in enamels and gilt.

Hard-paste porcelain, press-moulded, glazed, and painted in green, yellow, puce, iron-red, greyish-brown, and black enamels, and gilt. The approximately oval base is concave underneath and glazed, except for the edge. The upper part has a scrolled edge, and an uneven top painted green. On the viewer's left of the base there is a wide-mouthed white bowl with slanting gadrooning on the shoulder, supported on an incurved stem and small circular foot. The man stands on his right leg, with his left relaxed beside it. He faces towards the bowl and rests his right hand on its back edge. His left hand is extended a little way in front of him. He has greyish-brown hair, a droopy black moustache and eyes, and red lips. He wears a long iron-red and white striped gown with yellow cuffs and collar, and a puce striped sash. His shoes and conical hat are yellow.
