Description

Silver; the sides pierced, embossed and chased with birds, scrolls, foliage and flowers

Silver; the concave sides pierced, embossed and chased with birds, scrolls, foliage and flowers. An applied square-section rim at top and bottom. Two rococo cartouches, one engraved with a crest of an estoile, the other engraved with a coat-of-arms per pale dexter gules on a bend engrailed argent three martlets sable impaling sinister argent a chevron sable between three elephonts' heads erased vert on a chief gules a broken sword proper helt and pommel or the point hanging down between two plates (roundels argent).

Notes

History note: The coat-of-arms and crest are probably those of Thomas-Townley Dawson of Kinsale, Co. Dublin (born 6 June 1732) who married (20 November 1759) Joanna Saunders, daughter of Anderson Saunders of Co. Wicklow. They had one child, a daughter Catherine Maria (1761-1851) who married Charles Bury, 1st earl of Charleville.
