Wide-ended Folding Fan
Maker: Unknown
Leaf of paper, painted in ink, polychrome opaque water-colours and gold. Guards and sticks of bamboo, pierced, and lacquered. Decorated on both sides of the leaf with ho-ho bird and paulownia tree.
History note: Colonel Leonard Messel (1872-1953); Anne, Countess of Rosse (1902-92)
Purchased with a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and a gift from the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum

The wrapper catalogued as O.15A-1985 is certainly for this type of fan, but seems too wide for this particlar example, and may be slightly earlier in date. It is therefore catalogued separately.
