Description

Copper alloy, probably bronze.

Copper alloy, probably bronze. The naked old woman sits on a rectangular slab supported on a moulded cylindrical pedestal, with another rectangular slab below it. This is supported on an integral rectangular base with a border of indentations on the sloping edge. The woman's head is slightly inclined to her left and her arms crossed beneath her breasts. The lined face and forehead, the veined skin, visible bones, sagging breasts, and the folds of skin on the abdomen reveal a highly naturalistic approach. Her facial expression is sad and pensive.
