Production date: circa AD 1884 : MacDonald dates the drawing c 1883-4, and the signature, c. 1884. She suggests a number of possibly locations: Combe Hall Farm, Norburton, Kingston on Thames (residence of Lord & Lady Campbell; see MacDonald 848), Moreby Hall in Yorkshire, the home of Thomas Henry Preston, JP, where Whistler was a house-guest (MacDonald: 908), or Speke Hall near Liverpool
