A study for PD.5-1977. See also PD.121-1950. A third study is in the Lincoln, Usher Gallery (UG.866) and two brown ink drawings were sold at Christie's in 1976 (see photos in file).

  • Text: Peter De WInt R.W.S. 1784-1849 / On the Dart. A study for Armstrong Plate 21 / A grey wash version is in the Usher. Both the / latter & this lack the snarled tree across the Mill House, left, in the finished picture
  • Location: Old mount, lower left
  • Method of creation: Graphite
  • Text: The Usher version has a four arched bridge, with / piers. In fact it never had more than one, / Another version is in the Fitzwilliam. Very highly / coloured, with no mill, no cows and no bridge.
  • Location: Old mount, lower right
