Gilt metal, cast, embossed and chased. The chatelaine comprises three hinged sections the uppermost with a long spatulate hook; suspended from the top section are two thimble cases (A & B) with hinged lids; suspended from the centre of the lowest section is a shaped triangular etui (C) oval in section, with hinged lid and sprung button clasp. The fitted interior contains a folding knife (D) and a pair of ivory memorandum leaves hinged with a gilt button (E). (There are cavities for four more tools, which are missing.) The cast chatelaine and embossed etui are chased with Classical figures and cherubs within borders of rococo scrolls and rocaille decoration. The two thimble holders are similarly decorated.
