Oval, tortoise shell box with silver mounts and thread piqué work; the lid inlaid with a hunting scene, the interior painted with armorials
Tortoise shell with silver mounts, inlaid thread piqué work and painted armorials in oil paints. Oval box with straight sides and a slightly convex lid and base. Pinned to the base is a silver rim mount. The hinge is piereced with stylised leaves on the base, but unpierced on the lid. The top of the lid is decorated with a hunting scene of a horseman, huntsman and five dogs chasing a stag. The interior of the lid is painted with the coat-of-arms and crest of Stuart in white, black, blue and gold.
